PRINCIPLES IN THE MANAGEMENT OF CERVICAL PRECANCER

The Cervical Cancer Prevention and Training Centre (CCPTC) in Catholic Hospital, Battor, Ghana, has developed a training programme in cervical cancer prevention especially meant for health workers in low resource settings/middle income countries. This training programme/model is higher than the traditional training programmes in Visual Inspection with Acetic (VIA) and involves basic colposcopy.

Module 1 equips health workers with the knowledge and skills to set up screening units and start screening to detect cervical precancer.

Module 2 equips health workers with the knowledge and skills to treat precancerous lesions of the cervix with ablation (thermal coagulation and cryotherapy).

Here (as part of module 2), we highlight the principles in management of cervical precancer.
