Interesting. This will not stop. It is about power and control.
Well, there has been history in other areas all over the place. To increase access accross the world:
strong advocacy, research and investment,
HIV tests were moved from reference labs with a western Blot tests to ordinary labs with Eliza etc then to rapid tests in the hands of nurses, then to lay counselors and now rapid self tests in shops along the street. Along the way we had to manage a lot of storming and fights, reference lab scientists fighting lab techs, the lab techs fighting nurses then nurses fighting lay counselors! in the cascade at every stage of the transition:-to demystify, make things simple and increase assess to HIV testing.
At the end of the day, every cadre of staff in the chain had adjusted and remained relevant while client testing to know their HIV status improved significantly from what we know 15-20 years ago.
These “ disruptive” interventions and processes won’t stop! And all of us have to adjust when the time comes.
